high surf
the morning perfume
of the last wild rose
first frost
a flicker perches
on a propane tank
storm surge—
a passing eagle
lifts all the gulls
nocturnal flight calls
horizon to horizon
the Milky Way
the smoothest beach stone
seals waiting offshore
for low tide
late afternoon light . . .
butterflies bend
the goldenrod
a sparrow grabs
the last ripe raspberries . . .
southerly winds
the end of summer
a question mark
punctuates the asters
heaps of wet seaweed
mark the high tide line
autumn gale
flight calls overhead . . .
my long shadow
touches the sea
storm surge
gulls ride the waves
of thunder
