persistent rain
in the distance one crow
calls to another
in full view
of the blushing maple
bare ash
a flash of insight
lost on waking—
Orionids
yellow aspens
without a sound a jay
becomes sky
a young sparrow
practicing its song
first frost
moonset
a window cracked
for the last crickets
falling leaves the yellow of the last warbler
the usual
back and forth of the nuthatch
fluorescent leaves
fall pruning
three bags of clothes
off to Goodwill
wine-red leaves drinking in the view
all-day rain . . .
I open the door thinking
the cat will stay in
