A few days ago I had the pleasure of co-leading a workshop for the Belfast Poetry Festival with calligrapher Jan Owen at Local Color Gallery in Belfast. Called Wayfinding, our workshop began as an introduction to writing haiku; I encouraged participants to think of their haiku as wayfinders marking moments along their life path. Then, with Jan’s guidance, we wrote our haiku on strips of paper to hang in the gallery during the festival. The workshop was a lovely experience that Jan and I hope to do again together sometime!
Watching Jan demonstrate calligraphy, I wrote this haiku:
