Come celebrate the birthday of Pulitzer Prize-winning “local” poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, who was born in Rockland, Maine on February 22, 1892. She grew up in Camden, moved to New York for college, and then went on to become one of the country’s most famous poets before her death in 1950.
In honor of her 127th birthday, twelve Maine poets will each read a Millay poem related to the theme “Take Up the Song,” along with one of their own poems. Poets reading, in order of appearance: Kathleen Ellis, host; Francois Amar; Carol Bachofner; Linda Buckmaster; Elizabeth Garber; Ellen Goldsmith; Gary Lawless; Kristen Lindquist; Kendall Merriam; Ellen Sander; and Elizabeth Tibbetts. Soprano Nancy Ogle and pianist Laura Artesani will also perform. A reception will follow the reading.
