end of year
unexpected snowfall
a clean slate
winter rain
sweeping it all clean
before year’s end
sunday morning
complacency
of the just-fed cat
Today’s haiku is a (quotidien) nod to the American poet Wallace Stevens, whose poem “Sunday Morning” (1915) has long been a favorite. It opens thus:
1
Complacencies of the peignoir, and late
Coffee and oranges in a sunny chair,
And the green freedom of a cockatoo
Upon a rug mingle to dissipate
The holy hush of ancient sacrifice.
tonight’s lurid tale
the young moon and Venus
in conjunction
winter rain
rows of numbers rolling
down my screen
a set of new clothes
for the holidays
goose lawn statue
silent night
the spaces between snowflakes
also falling
christmas eve
still believing
in white magic
white christmas
icing the fir tree
sugar cookies
a fresh page
the cloying perfume
of paper whites
winter solstice
the harbor flat calm
at sunrise
