longest night
the darkness we need
to see the stars
before sunrise . . .
he reads the morning news
by Christmas tree light
early dark
hundreds of crows
streaming to their roost
laundry day
a window open
to let in the river
morning rain
the last two Christmas cookies
for breakfast
a kinglet sips
from an icicle
waning light
cold moon
an empty urchin shell
cupping sea water
record rainfall
on the feeder one bluebird
displaces another
cold moon
the parking lot corral
overflowing with carts
you have arrived
at your destination . . .
winter stars
featureless sky . . .
an open mailbox
filled with snow
