winter dawn
a black-and-white cat
prowls the lawn’s edge
without a cat
to help decorate the tree —
winter moths
morning heat
the neighbor’s cat waits
under our feeders
all the places
where the cat used to sleep
March gusts
new year
the old cat and I share
a heating pad
first day
the cat wakes me up
coming to bed
Sunday night football
our cheers for a touchdown
scare the cat
brisk breeze
the old cat chases a leaf
with her eyes
all-day rain . . .
I open the door thinking
the cat will stay in
twilight—
the cat’s intense stare
at nothing
morning chill
the old cat chases down
a cricket
