I will be offering a four-week Introduction to Haiku workshop via the Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education program. Class size is limited to 10, and advance registration is necessary. Cost is $45.
Course description: The centuries-old Japanese haiku has become one of the most universally popular poetic forms, in part because of its simplicity of form -- three short, unrhymed lines. You might think any first-grader could write a haiku, but writing haiku is not about counting syllables! In this introductory workshop, we will explore the history of the form, read classic Japanese haiku in translation as well as contemporary English language haiku, and practice techniques for writing, editing, and sharing our own short poems.
