after sunset’s flare
after the tropical storm
a bat
the lighthouse beam
sweeps the spruces . . .
twilight flight calls
passing storm
a wind-assisted merlin
gains on a goldfinch
hurricane force gusts
the far shore white
with waiting gulls
distant foghorn
a yellowthroat emerges
from the jewelweed
starless night
the thumping that wakes me
my heartbeat
late summer . . .
empty mussel shells
litter the lake shore
bloodwork
she tells me
I have good veins
expecting rain
at any moment
poplar leaves
witch’s butter . . .
a bridge where trolls
await their toll
dragon horn lichen
pill bugs flee
the fallen fairy house
