late winter
the fine lacework
of tree lichen
fleeing
across the ice
oak leaf
north wind
a small raft of sea ducks
drops in a trough
fresh snow on granite
the faint purple sheen
of purple sandpipers
winter cocoon
hammering from inside
the shrink-wrapped ship
Valentine’s Day
the cheerful red
of ice-fishing shacks
a forest
full of broken things
winter moss
winter disquiet
a red-tailed hawk circles
and circles the sun
one tulip
leaning out of the vase
cabin fever
And a reworking of an older poem, in honor of tonight’s Super Bowl:
Sunday night
shouted prayers
follow the football
first day of the dragon . . .
a sapsucker’s red throat
catches the light
a perched hawk
watches over a vacant lot
winter fatigue
