stick season
the power and the glory
of winterberries
November gale
flushed snow buntings
flash their white
second summer
signs along the trail share
Wabanaki bird names
a woodpecker’s jarring laugh intermittent stream
our country
elects a dictator
autumn deepens
a new no hunting sign
at the old pasture’s edge
winterberries
accelerating
through dead man’s curve
winterberries
day of the dead
the lawn aglow
with fallen leaves
waking to rain
and a blue jay’s voice
warm spell
Halloween dawn
stirring the embers
of maple leaves
dreaming
of the island again
rain on yellow leaves
