wind chill
puffed up pigeons filling
a power line
the river
the color of nothing else
winter afternoon
January thaw
a red-tailed hawk waits
on a guardrail
January sunrise
enough light for the blue
of bluebirds
riverbank
where I once saw a fisher
someone’s loose dog
robins crowd
the roadside sumacs
January thaw
shoveling out . . .
waxwings shift places
in the treetops
even larger
with its cap of fresh snow
squirrels’ nest
morning flurries
the snow shovel shelters
a set of finch tracks
the distant twinkle
of a neighbor’s porch light
—passing comet
jet trails . . .
a line of deer tracks marks
the field’s fresh snow
