marsh twilight
the grackle curls its body
into a new moon
coots trumpeting
behind a screen of cattails
high noon
rites of spring
quail tracks inscribe
a muddy trail
snow on saguaros
the morning flurry
of cactus wrens
snow glitter . . .
criss-crossing bird tracks
where his car was
bereft . . .
snow drifts into corners
of the empty porch
remnants of a wasp nest
the concentric circles
of summer memories
afternoon snow
dimming the room . . .
the perfume of Earl Grey
fresh snow
turkey-tails rainbow
the blowdown
sun playing on fresh snow . . .
a book I’ve loved
since childhood
a huddle of ducks
resists the river’s tug
snow day
