ducks milling about
a sunlit stretch of river
nine degrees
river dusk —
a few ducks foraging
along the ice edge
a huddle of ducks
resists the river’s tug
snow day
scaups on the lake
lost within whitecaps
autumn gale
ducks at dusk
gliding upstream
fade to black
early dusk
dark shapes of ducks
shift among rocks
snow on the river . . .
feeding buffleheads
flicker on and off
—I wrote this one for December 2020 New England Letters (which was shared today) in response to the prompt “surprise”
marsh rain
we run for cover
as the ducks emerge
social distancing
taking out the trash
i startle some ducks
March wind
sailing downstream
pairs of ducks
last light
by the river black ducks
forage for acorns
