hot spell . . .
the pavement shimmering
through dead man’s curve
heat index
a catbird sings louder
and louder
scattered showers
only one peony
in full bloom
clear calm summer morning
both sides
of her phone conversation
rain in the night
blur of a spider
in the sock drawer
a bowl of eggs
left on the doorstep
. . . almost summer
blue sea and sky . . .
through my office window
a laughing gull’s laugh
the erratic wake
of a water beetle
is it summer already
white caps —
his story’s unexpected
punchline
new moon . . .
fireflies mingle
in the scent of lilacs
a walk in the woods
inspires childhood stories
wild sarsaparilla
